PanGeo Subsea Opens Global Operations Office

Light

PanGeo Subsea has opened its operations office in Aberdeen, Scotland, as part of its business plan to grow the company’s services worldwide. Located in the Arnhill Business Park, Westhill, PanGeo Subsea Scotland will support European operations for offshore oil and gas and renewable energy.

Moya Cahill, President of PanGeo Subsea, said Aberdeen was a strategic choice for the hub of our offshore operations: “We have identified a strong market demand for our 3D acoustic imaging service and want to bring our leading edge technology directly to our customers.”

Visitors to MAST Americas next week will be able to meet representatives from the 3D and 4D subsea acoustic imaging specialists and discuss solutions that mitigate risk and create value for subsea installations for oil and gas, offshore renewable energy and other industries including mining and military applications.

Featured paper: Optimized Crewing for Damage Control: A Simulation Study

Dr. Renee Chow, Defence R&D Canada, Canada

The development and application of a task network simulation to ask what-if questions about the effectiveness of different crew sizes and automation to conduct damage control on a naval platform is described. In the past, simulations focused on either the physical dynamics of damage (e.g., fire and smoke propagation) or the activities of human operators in responding to the damage. This work marries a physics-based model with an operator activities model, where operators are defined to include both humans and automation. The simulation analyzes tradeoffs between different crew sizes and automation, and the impact of design parameters such as automation reliability and permeability in the platform’s construction material. It produces output useful for assessing whole-system performance and enables comparison of the specific strengths and weaknesses of each design and crewing option.

The simulation experiment investigated the effectiveness of three combinations of crew size and automation: small crew with advanced automation; medium crew with intermediate automation; and large crew with minimal automation (i.e., the baseline). The effectiveness of each option on two scenarios differing in damage type and complexity was evaluated. The reliability of the automation was varied between 100% and 75%, and the permeability of the construction materials between 10% and 2%. Twenty-five runs were carried out on each of 26 different configurations of the model. The results produced quantitative estimates of the correlations between the studied factors and damage severity. The simulation is both re-configurable and extensible and therefore has the potential to address other crew optimization questions.

Delegate Loyalty program

Delegates at next week’s MAST Americas conference will have the opportunity to join the new MAST Delegate Loyalty programme, offering substantial discounts to delegates that attend both annual MAST events from now on.

Details will be given to each delegate upon arrival.
