Chaired by Francois Duthoit Definition of the RCS Requirement on Surface Combatants Ing Riccardo Neri, IDS - Ingegneria dei Sistemi SpA, Italy The definition of the RCS requirement of a ship does not just mean fixing the absolute value of squares meters to be met. It also involves defining a set of conditions and limitations within which the requirement must be met, for example frequencies or view angles to be considered, whether the requirement is in free space or it also has to be met considering the sea multipath effect. If the requirements are on sea, distances and location of the enemy radar should be set, because the destructive and constructive contribution of the sea is linked to how the direct rays and those reflected from the sea surface combine together, thus the problem is linked to the mutual configuration of ship, sea and radar threat. This paper will describe how the issue of compliance with the RCS requirement can / should be conducted during the various phases of the project using numerical simulations, and how the contribution of the sea can be interpreted statistically. Electromagnetic Design of Modern Naval Platforms: A Workflow Proposal Mr. Giovanni Percivale, IDS - Ingegneria dei Sistemi SpA, Italy During the last few decades, IDS Naval Division, has been successfully positioned as EM solution providers rather than just sellers of sophisticated engineering or operational tools. Having gathered a long and fruitful experience in cooperation with many customers worldwide (taking part in more than 40 naval programs), IDS' solutions can detect and mitigate all potential risk by keeping configuration under control from the conceptual design phase to the at-sea acceptance test. An example of the best practice process applied to a modern project platform demonstrates how the IDS method and organisation workflow, together with the state-of-art technologies in terms of prediction and measurement capabilities, is able to identify, analyze and reduce the EM risk that could compromise the ship mission.
